Chinese vice premier stresses winning battle against poverty

Beijing; Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua has called for more solid efforts to secure a successful conclusion in the country’s battle against poverty.

Hu made the remarks during an inspection tour of Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in central China’s Hubei Province on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Located in the Wuling Mountains, Enshi prefecture remains plagued by abject poverty, although some poverty-stricken people have been relocated, China Economic Net reported.

Hu visited relocated villagers, inspected local industrial base, and checked the living conditions of the needy as well as the availability of basic medical care, compulsory education, housing and drinking water.

Hu said winning the battle against poverty is the top priority and a landmark project in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Victories must be achieved as scheduled next year, he said, calling for all-out efforts to help the needy shake off poverty and continuously helping the relocated people in business development and employment.
