Pakistani students among largest in China: Chinese Ambassador

Islamabad: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong has revealed that Pakistani students formed one of the largest unit of foreign students studying in China.

In a meeting with Pakistani Federal Minister for Education, Professional Training and National Heritage Shafqat Mahmood here, the Ambassador reminded that since the last many decades China always stood with Pakistan on national and international fora to support Pakistan on all the issues which spoke about the significance of the mutual friendship.

“One of the largest numbers of foreign students studying in China is from Pakistan. Likewise Pakistan is the country, receiving highest number of Chinese scholarships than any other country in the world,” he stated.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral issues of mutual interests based on education and skills development.

Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood emphasized that Pakistan-China had an iron bond which was getting stronger every passing day.

He acknowledged that China was the first country to provide Covid-19 pandemic vaccines to Pakistan and was also a role model for the world the way it fought against the deadly virus and defeated this unseen enemy, he added.

Both the sides also discussed the issue of Pakistani Students studying in China and agreed to keep communication and coordination on this.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary Federal Education Farah Hamid Khan, Executive director Higher Education Commission (HEC) Shaista Sohail and other higher authorities of the ministry.

In a tweet after the meeting, Shafqat Mahmood said: “Very happy to receive the Chinese Ambassador at the Ministry of Education today. Many issues relating to education cooperation discussed including issue of Pakistani students in Chinese universities. Hope to deepen education ties between the two countries.”
