Shehbaz Sharif to visit China soon to discuss CPEC’s KCR project

Karachi: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique would soon visit China to discuss the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The announcement in this regard was made during a meeting between Minister for Railways and Aviation, Khawaja Saad Rafique with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The federal and Sindh provincial governments announced to expedite work on Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Minister for Railways and Aviation, Khawaja Saad Rafique in a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that KCR project must be completed at the earliest.

The meeting discussed the agendas including depot issues for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project, Thar Coal, KCR and aviation.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on the occasion emphasized on resolving the issue of transportation of the people of Karachi, which is the largest city of Pakistan, on a priority basis.

Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the federal government supported the Sindh government on the work of KCR for which a committee would be set up to take the project forward.

The Sindh Chief Minister nominated Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Transport for the committee on behalf of the Sindh government while federal government has decided to appoint two officers of Railways and two members of Planning and Development.

Syed Murad Ali Shah was accompanied by Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon, Legal Adviser Murtaza Wahab, Chairman Planning and Development Hassan Naqvi and other senior officials at the meeting.

While the Railways Minister was accompanied by a delegation including Railway chief Farrukh Taimur Ghilzai, Additional General Manager Railways Amir Baloch and Chief Executive Officer Railways Nisar Memon, Project Director KCR Amir Daudputo, Director General Aviation Khaqan Murtaza and others.

Railways Minister announced at the meeting that he will soon accompany PM Shehbaz Sharif to China to discuss the KCR project.
