Chinese delegation discusses Pakistan-China cooperation with Defence Minister

Islamabad: A Chinese Delegation called on Pakistani Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif here in his office.

The Minister for Defence welcomed the dignitary and stated that friendship with China is a corner-stone of Pakistan’s Foreign Policy based on convergence of views on regional and global issues.

The Minister appreciated existing bilateral mechanisms, like Strategic Dialogue, Consular Consultations and Counter Terrorism Consultations. He mentioned that the strategic relations between the two neighbouring nations are based on mutual trust.

He pointed out that Pakistan deeply appreciates China’s diplomatic and material support in its fight against terrorism at regional and international fora.

Asif expressed that Pakistan-China Security Cooperation is pillar of regional stability. “Cooperation in intelligence sharing has increased amidst growing threats regarding CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor),” he said.

He also mentioned that Pakistan-China cooperation in the defence sector is vital for maintaining peace and stability in South Asia.

The Minister apprised Pakistan Navy has accorded highest priority to ensure maritime security of Gwadar port and all CPEC projects along the Pakistan’s coast. “Therefore, there exists a great scope for both countries to work closely with each other in diverse fields,” he remarked.
