JUI-F head contacts Nawaz, Zardari to discuss situation after Senate polls

Islamabad: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) head Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Saturday contacted Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to discuss political situation arising after Chairman Senate elections.

As per details, JUI-F head also discussed upcoming opposition’s long march. The trio also agreed to approach relevant forums against election of top slots of the upper house of the parliament.

It merits mention that on Friday elected by a majority vote the government-backed Sadiq Sanjrani as Chairman Senate and Mirza Mohammad Afridi as Deputy Chairman Senate.

Balochistan Senator Sanjrani secured 48 votes out of a total of 98 cast for the seat of Chairman Senate, defeating the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – an 11-party opposition alliance – Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani who received only 42 votes, while eight votes have been rejected.

Meanwhile, Ex-FATA Senator Mirza Afridi secured 54 votes out of a total of 98 cast for the seat of Deputy Chairman Senate.
