Islamabad: China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority chief Lt. General Asim Saleem Bajwa (retd) has said that the 10th meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) on CPEC will be held on July 16.

While announcing the date of the much-awaited meeting on Twitter, he said the meeting would be held via video link.

He said the meeting would be co-chaired by Planning Minister Asad Umar and Vice Chairman National Development and Reforms Commission (NDRC) Ning Jizhe. Bajwa’s tweet was retweeted by Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong.

Normally the JCC meeting is held once a year. The 9th meeting was held in 2019 but the 10th meeting could not be scheduled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The JCC is the highest decision making forum on CPEC which reviews progress and decision making forum on the mega project.

Bajwa said the forum also reviews progress and decides on future projects.

Nong Rong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan earlier said China had directly invested over US $25 billion in CPEC.

He said China had so far invested US $ 25.4 billion in CPEC since its inception, creating 75,000 jobs for Pakistanis.

The CPEC JCC has several working groups placed under it, which meet between JCC sessions, and prepare recommendations for the main committee.
