Islamabad: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong has greeted the Pakistani and the Chinese Muslims on Eidul Azha festival.

Eid was celebrated in China on Tuesday and is being celebrated in Pakistan today (Wednesday).

The Pakistani community living in the Chinese capital and other parts of China celebrated Eidul Azha.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Moinul Haq, senior diplomats, officials, businessmen, teachers and students offered Eid prayers at Pakistan Embassy mosque. The ambassador exchanged Eid greetings with the compatriots, said a statement by the embassy.

The local Muslims and faithful from Islamic countries including Indonesia, Egypt, Sudan, Iran, Afghanistan and Bangladesh also celebrated Eid-ul-Azha.

They sacrificed animals at the designated places and exchanged Eid greetings and best wishes to each other through text messages.

Beijing’s oldest Niujie Mosque, first built in 1996, opened its doors early in the morning to both locals and foreigners willing to partake in the prayer.

Muslims in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Gansu and Qinghai provinces as well as other parts of China also celebrated the Eid festival. The emphasis was on family reunions, meeting friends, enjoying meals and wearing new clothes.

China is home to about 20 million Muslims from more than 10 ethnic minorities. The largest group is the Hui minority, which largely hails from northwest China’s Ningxia Hui and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions.

Ambassador Non Rong wished the Pakistani Muslims “good health” and “best of success” on the occasion.

The envoy said his embassy staff joined him in wishing the Muslims on the festival. “Eidul Azha Mubarak,” he said, quoting the traditional Pakistani greetings.
