Sister cities to beef up China-Pakistan traditional friendship

Beijing: Guangzhou city of China and Lahore, Pakistan have tied the knot to become friendship city recently as the two cities have signed the memorandum of understanding of enhanced cooperation.

According to the MOU, Guangzhou and Lahore will conduct friendly exchanges including economy, trade, culture and tourism, science and technology, and education, according to China Economic Net (CEN).

It is learnt that Guangzhou once donated 20,000 disposable surgical masks to Lahore to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020.

The Orange Line of Lahore has been put into operation since October 2020, which is operated and maintained by a consortium led by Guangzhou Metro. Besides Guangzhou, Lahore and Chengdu China also tied the knot to be friendship cities in 2015.

In the same year, Zhuhai China and Gwadar Pakistan also established sister-city relationship. To mark the 70th anniversary of the China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, China and Pakistan jointly launched a set of new stamps in May 2021. It’s worth pointing out that the stamps feature the sister-ports of Gwadar and Zhuhai.

Gwadar and Puyang China declare sister cities in 2019. The sister cities jointly built the Pak-China Friendship Forest at the foot of the Koh-e-Batil Hill, Gwadarm which is regarded as a symbol of the friendship. Qingdao China and Karachi Pakistan also signed an MOU to establish sister-city relationship in 2019. Beijing China and Islamabad Pakistan have been sister-cities for 29 years.
