President, PM receive condolence messages from President Xi Jinping, PM Li Keqiang on Peshawar incident

Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan have received separate messages from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang in which the Chinese top leaders expressed deep condolences to the victims of the Friday’s Peshawar blast and extended sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families.

Hours earlier, the Chinese embassy in Pakistan said in a series of tweets that: “President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to President Dr. @ArifAlvi, expressed deep condolences to the victims of #Peshawarblast & extended sincere sympathies to the injured & the bereaved families.”

It added: “President Xi Jinping says China strongly condemns the terrorist attack & firmly supports efforts made by the Pakistani government & people to fight terrorism, maintain stability in the country & protect the people’s safety.”

The embassy further tweeted: The “Chinese Premier Li Keqiang sent a message of condolence to Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI over the attack, expressed the deepest condolences to victims and China’s firm support to Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism.”

It mentioned: “Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also sent a message of condolence to Foreign Minister @SMQureshiPTI (Shah Mehemood Qureshi) over the attack.”

A government spokesperson told Gwadar Pro that all the messages had been received and the Pakistani leaders were thankful to their Chinese counterparts for their care.

On Friday, at least 63 worshipers lost their lives, while around 200 suffered injuries in the suicide bomb attack during Friday prayers at a mosque in Qissa Khwani bazaar in the Kocha Risaldar area of Peshawar.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed claimed all the three suspects involved in the suicide blast inside the mosque in Peshawar had been identified by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the investigation agencies.

Ahmed maintained that the police and investigation agencies were close to identifying the suspects and hoped that they would be arrested in the next two to three days.
