Italy: Thousands in Florence for the national Mustang car show

Florence: Thousands of people are in Florence this weekend for the Pee Dee Roundup National show hosted at the Florence Center.

The Eastern S.C. Mustang Club and the Mustang Club of America are sponsoring the event.

The show features all Mustangs, including cars dating back to the 1960s and 2000s. People have come as far as Oklahoma to enter the competition.

Crystal and Arris Mantalvanos of North Carolina have two Mustangs in the competition. The Mustang enthusiasts said they would love to bring home a trophy, but also just love being in Florence.

“We just basically wanted to come. See what it’s all about. If we win, great. We hope we do. We love the Florence the area for this. All the hotels have been close and in walking distance,” said Crystal Mantalvanos.

Several people at the show said the Florence Center is the perfect spot to hold the car show.

They said its close proximity to hotels, restaurants, gas stations and shopping centers makes it very easy to really enjoy the city.

The City of Florence released the following statement about the car show: “On behalf of the City of Florence, we are excited to have the Mustang Club of America National Show here for the weekend along with all the visitors who will visit Florence this weekend to enjoy the show. We appreciate the Florence Center and their recruitment of events that allow the city and its many hotels, restaurants and businesses the opportunity to showcase Florence. We welcome those visiting for the weekend with this event, and encourage them to get out and enjoy Florence.”

The show is expected to attract hundreds of spectators. The car show runs through Sunday.
