Islamabad: Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Spokesperson to Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, said that the only way to resolve the North Waziristan issue is through political means.
Opposition parties have unanimously called for further investigations as to what happened at the checkpoint in the Khar Qamar area of North Waziristan. “Given the confusion and misinformation on this sensitive issue,a parliamentary commission enjoying the faith of all stakeholders, would not only help establish the truth but also help defuse the current situation.”
Senator Khokhar said he was disappointed that the PTI government has not been forthcoming on this issue. CM KPK and Interior minister should have immediately taken provincial assembly and Parliament in confidence. “Instead we have only witnessed this government’s silence, which has led to more conspiracy theories and distortion of facts.” Senator Khokhar insisted that no one should be blamed until true facts are ascertained. He said that the people of the tribal areas as well as the Pakistan armed forces have given a lot of sacrifices in the war on terror.
“Peace in this area was achieved after sacrificing thousands of lives. It would be a terrible tragedy if peace is lost again.”
A step in the right direction would have been if Speaker NA had acted impartiality. “If Speaker had acted according to the rules, this would have been seen as a positive confidence building step to diffuse the crisis”.
Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that no matter how big a dispute, a political solution is the only way forward to resolve it. “Force is not an option. Political solution is the key to resolving disputes around the world. There is no other way,” added Senator Khokhar.
