ECP issues notice to PM for violating code of conduct

Ghotki: Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday issued notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for violating code of conduct regarding by-elections in NA-205.

According to the notice issued by regional election commissioner, the premier has violated the code of conduct by visiting the constituency after the announcement of the poll schedule. Imran Khan has also been directed to submit his reply in a week.

It is to be mentioned here that NA-205 seat fell vacant after the death of Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar.

On June 19, PM Imran Khan arrived in Ghotki and met with Mahar’s family to express his condolences. He also prayed for the eternal peace for the departed soul. On May 22, the 52-year-old minister had passed away at his Ghotki residence due to heart failure.

Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar had served as Chief Minister of Sindh from 2002 to 2004.

He won General Elections 2018 independently from NA-205 and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, becoming member of the cabinet in September 2018.

Political leaders including President Dr Arif Alvi, Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Special Assistant to PM on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan and Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi expressed deep grief over his death.
