Gilgit: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders Senator Sherry Rehman, Information Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Sadia Danish and Shehla Raza have expressed deep concern over the deliberate restrictions on women voting in the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections and called upon Chief Election Commissioner to immediately intervene and resolve the issue.

In a joint statement, the PPP women leaders said that attempts to disenfranchise the womenfolk in the Gilgit-Baltistan were unacceptable and these incidents may damage the credibility of these elections if not tackled swiftly.

They further said that casting vote in a free and fair manner by every citizen, including the women voters was an inalienable right and any modus oprendi to create hurdles or restrict women from use of their right of franchise would be vehemently opposed and resisted.

PPP women leaders demanded that Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan should take urgent notice and take steps to ensure that women voters are allowed to cast their votes without slowing the pace of polling at the stations.
