Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ‘s Yousuf Raza Gillani was on Wednesday elected senator from Islamabad.

In the National Assembly, 340 members polled their votes. One hundred and sixty seven members cast their ballots in the Sindh Assembly and 65 in Balochistan Assembly.

PPP candidate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and PTI Candidate Fozia Arshad won the Senate election for general and women seats respectively from the federal capital Islamabad.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani defeated Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh by securing 169 votes, while the latter got 164 votes.

Total votes polled for the general seat were 340, while seven votes were rejected.

Fozia Arshad of PTI got 174, while PML-N candidate Farzana Kausar bagged 161 votes.

Three hundred and forty votes were polled in this category, while five of them were rejected.
