Senior ANP leader discusses CPEC with Chinese Ambassador, lauds China’s generosity

Islamaba: Senior Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan met Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong here to discuss the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the regional situation.

Matters relating to mutual interest, especially the recent development in the region, evolving situation in Afghanistan and CPEC were discussed in detail, said a statement released by the ANP.

Later, the ANP leader said that the whole nation was united on the CPEC as it would contribute heavily towards prosperity.

“Both of us (the envoy and Aimal Wali Khan) showed satisfaction with the CPEC progress. There is a need to expedite work here and there and we both agreed to play our role in this regard,” he said.

Khan said China had invested generously in Pakistan and “we need to pay back by benefiting from the opportunities that Beijing has provided.”

The ANP leader said the Dasu bus incident was highly condemnable. “I condoled with the Ambassador on the loss of life. This should never happen again,” he added.

On Afghanistan, Aimal Wali Khan stressed the need of resolving Afghanistan issue peacefully through intra-Afghan dialogue. “Afghanistan belongs to Afghans and they should themselves decide about their future,” he opined.

He said that peace in Afghanistan was key for regional stability and development particularly for all the close neighbouring countries.
