Anti-democracy group vanished in history, Bhutto lives on: Zahid Abbas Shah

Frankfurt: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Germany President Syed Zahid Abbas Sunday said that the perpetrators of the 1977 coup against the democracy had vanished into the history but PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto lives on.

In a statement, he said July 5 will always be remembered as a black day when a democratically elected government was removed unconditionally by a dictator.

“The PPP struggled hard to revive democracy and the mission is still incomplete. We will not rest until we achieve the goal,” he said.

Ziaul Haq had declared martial in the country on July 5, 1977, dismissing the government of the then prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and dissolving parliament.

Zahid Abbas Shah said the PPP was observing ‘black day’ against violation of the Constitution.

“On this day, the party renews its pledge to remain steadfast on the democratic principles of rule of the Constitution and empowerment of parliament,” he said.

Zahid Abbas Shah directed all party units in Germany to observe the Black Day on July 5 by passing statements and resolutions at their respective stations.

“We cannot hold any big meeting or gathering due to the death of Zafar Abbas Shah and we will hold a condolence meeting after the burial of the late. But at the same time it is necessary to condemn the crimes, oppression and dictatorship of Zia-ul-Batil. Thank you all friends and party members,” he remarked.
