Italy to hold Tiramisù World Cup in Treviso

Rome: The 2020 edition of the Tiramisù World Cup, now in its fourth year, will take place in the north Italian city of Treviso next month. About 200 tiramisù enthusiasts, both Italian and foreign, will battle it out to win the world title over the course of three days.

Competitors, who must be aged over 18 and strictly non-professional are required to choose between a creative recipe and the traditional recipe, which must include six basic ingredients: savoiardi (ladyfingers), mascarpone, eggs, coffee, cocoa powder, and white sugar.

The championships will be held in stages between 30 October and 1 November at Piazza dei Signori in Treviso.

One of Italy’s best-known desserts internationally, tiramisù translates directly as “pick me up” thanks to its mix of liquer, cocoa and coffee.

There are many variations of the recipe but the basic idea is the same: sponge cake is soaked in coffee and alcohol (usually rum or brandy) and then layered with mascarpone and sprinkled with cocoa
