China Economic Net

Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the government was focusing on increasing the exports of Information Technology (IT) products as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had brought a revolution in all sectors.

In a meeting with Chairman Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) Amir Hashmi, the prime minister said provision of facilities to the IT-related workforce was the top priority of the government.

The meeting discussed progress on establishment of Islamabad Technopolis, the capital’s special technology zone, said a statement by the PM’s office.

The Chairman STZA informed the prime minister that domestic and foreign companies were showing keen interest in investing in technology zones which were part of the CPEC or were links to the CPEC. After the federal capital, the special technology zones will be set up in the provincial capitals like the CPEC Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

Last month, the STZA invited applications for Zone Enterprises at the Flagship Zone-Islamabad Technopolis to establish specialised technology facilities. In the first phase, the STZA has only invited applications for Zone Enterprises in the Islamabad Technopolis including those zone enterprises who want to build their own specialized facilities.

In the second phase, the applications for the Zone Developers licenses will be opened, the date of which will be announced soon. Furthermore, for the next ten years, the STZA has declared exceptional exemptions and tax holidays for prospective zone enterprises.
