Chinese Ambassador, new Defence Attache hold meeting with Pakistani army chief

Rawalpindi: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and Major General Yang Yang, incoming Chinese Defence Attache to Pakistan called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistani Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at the General Headquarters and exchanged views on the bilateral and regional issues.

During the meeting matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, including Afghan Peace Process and measures to further enhance bilateral cooperation were discussed, said a statement released by military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The visiting dignitaries thanked the COAS for special measures taken for provision of safe and secure environment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan and efforts towards regional stability, said the statement.

The COAS reiterated the need for convergence of efforts towards a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan in pursuit of regional stability.

General Bajwa congratulated the incoming Defence Attache for assuming his new appointment and appreciated efforts of his predecessor.

Pakistani and Chinese political and military leaders in addition to diplomats remain in regular contact throughout the year as the two Iron Brothers move forward. China has always backed Pakistan in good and bad times.
