Pakistan wants more investment from China: Minister

Islamabad: Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib has said that Pakistan wanted more investment from China.

Habib mentioned that the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to China was very important and would focus on attracting Chinese investment.

In a statement on official media, he pointed out that there were lots of opportunities to increase economic volume between both the countries.

He stressed that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had great importance not only for Pakistan but also for the entire region.

The minister said those elements who were engaged in propaganda against the CPEC project would not succeed in their nefarious design.

Habib said Pakistan wanted good relations with all neighboring countries.

Earlier, the Pakistani foreign ministry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming visit to China would reinforce the strategic ties between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed stated: “The visit will reinforce the all weather strategic cooperative partnership between our two countries, and further advance the objective of building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.”

Ahmed described the CPEC as “high quality demonstration project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)” and stressed that both countries were “strongly committed” to taking it forward and making it successful.

PM Khan will visit China from February 3 to February 5 during which he will attend the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics and meet Chinese leaders.

The PM’s visit is taking place after nearly two years and will, therefore, provide an opportunity to both sides to have a look at the state of bilateral cooperation and discuss more projects.
