Sherry Rehman slams govt for rising commodity prices with arrival of Ramadan

Islamabad: Berating the government, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Vice President Sherry Rehman on Saturday said commodity prices were rising with the arrival of Ramadan.

“The weekly inflation rate has now increased by 1.10% to reach 15.67%! With Ramadan just round the corner people have enough to worry about. Seems no one is taking responsibility or charge of day-to-day governance, let alone policies. The crises are piling up, the govt should stand down,” Sherry Rehman tweeted.

She said the tabahi sarkar (catastrophic government) had consistently failed to control inflation. The government’s job was not just to announce Ramadan subsidies, she maintained.

“It seems that the country is running without any economic policy. Borrowing and raising prices is not the only economic policy. They are going home on their incompetence and public demand,” she said taking a dig at the ruling party.

On February 21, Sherry Rehman had claimed that the upcoming summer season would see “unprecedented gas shortages because the government had been unable to secure two new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals from Japan and Qatargas consortiums.

“Unbelievable incompetence [of the PTI government], given the urgent need for gas in Pakistan,” she had said on Twitter.
