Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday in a summary sent to President Arif Alvi nominated Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Nasreen Jalil as the next Sindh Governor.

The MQM-P proposed Jalil’s name on the basis of power-sharing formula with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Earlier, former governor Sindh Imran Ismail had resigned from his office and sent his resignation to the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on April 11.

The governor’s resignation came along with a number of resignations by the PTI lawmakers ahead of the election for the Leader of the House.

After the vote on the no-confidence motion against the Imran Khan-led government, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif was set to contest the election against PTI nominee Shah Mahmood Qureshi, however, the PTI lawmakers boycotted the session after a speech by their candidate.

Along with Jalil, Wasim Akhtar and Amir Chisti were also in consideration for the Sindh Governor slot.
