Islamabad: Rome is the ideal candidate to host Expo 2030. This was stated by the Promoting Committee’s Special Envoy for Asia, who said he was optimistic that Italy will win the bid to host the event.

“Busan and Riyadh are strong competitors, but we are confident that Rome’s candidacy is respectable, dignified and is fully supported by the Italian government, and Rome, being the capital, represents the whole nation,” Orlandi said speaking to the media and representatives of Pakistan from the academic world at the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Islamabad, Andreas Ferrarese.

Orlandi said the title chosen by Italy “Peoples and Territories” shows the relationships between people and countries, and the relationship between man and nature.

“The tagline we’ve chosen is compelling, engaging and inspiring,” said Orlandi, adding that we live in a very complicated world and the problems we face are enormous.

According to Orlandi, man’s relationship with nature, the use of resources, energy scarcity and climate change are the main problems and solutions cannot come from a single country, regardless of that country’s power. “The more we argue, the more we exchange goods, the less we argue, the more we exchange bullets”, he underlined, specifying that with the exchange of ideas we can find a way to solve problems.

“My job is to travel a lot throughout Asia and convince” the countries “of Rome’s approach, which is democratic, inclusive, respectful, dignified and there is no trace of arrogance”, Orlandi finally commented: “We give you welcome to Rome; come and share your ideas, we are open to everyone”.

Italian Ambassador Andreas Ferrarese called upon Pakistanis to support Italy’s bid during an introductory program held in Islamabad. He also hosted a dinner for the participants.
