Energy Minister appreciated Chinese support, importance of CPEC to counter energy challenges

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Energy Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan has appreciated the support of China and the importance of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to counter the challenges of energy sector.

The Federal Minister attended the “International Conference on Pakistan Energy Sector Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities” as a chief guest here. The conference was arranged by the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy.

In his address, the minister maintained that CPEC projects had been helpful to overcome the persistent energy crises.

“China has always been there for us. They have played a great positive role to reduce the energy shortage. The CPEC projects are a huge benefit for us,” he added.

Khan discussed the challenges faced by the power sector in Pakistan. He elaborated the challenges separately from generation, transmission to distribution.

He explained the long-term strategy of the government and the ministry to counter these challenges. He also explained the role of policy-making in countering the numerous challenges faced by the power sector.

The minister discussed the future aim of the ministry in changing the landscape of the energy generation mix of Pakistan. He elaborated that the government aims to eradicate Pakistan’s dependence on the imported fossil fuel.

He told the students that the future of energy mix is aimed to depend on indigenous and clean energy sources. He declared the solar, wind, hydroelectric and Thar Coal Energy sources to be the most important in this transition. He elaborated the nitty-gritty of load management to the students.

He urged the future engineers to work for developing clean energy sources and efficient policy making through innovation in the future. He explained the importance of future engineers in countering the challenges and utilizing the opportunities.
