Bilawal Bhutto lays foundation stone of Dhabeji Special Economic Zone

Karachi: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari laid the foundation stone of Dhabeji Special Economic Zone in Thatta district of Sindh province on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said 150,000 employment opportunities will be created from this economic zone for the local people. Moreover, it will attract ample foreign investment as well.

Bilawal Bhutto said the project will bring economic development and prosperity with collaboration between the government and private stakeholders. The concept has been introduced to Pakistan by Shaheez Benazir Bhutto and we are still working under this model, he added.

Bilawal Bhutto said Dhabeji Special Economic Zone is the largest economic project of Pakistan.

The ceremony of laying the foundation stone was also attended by Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Provincial Minister Naseer Shah, Shazia Memon, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Qasim Naveed, Sadiq Memon, Jameel Ovais Gehram, Jameel Abdul Karim, Ali Hassan Zardari, and others.

Addressing the ceremony, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Dhabeji Special Economic Zone covers an area of 1530 acres, providing space for the national and foreign investors to establish business units.

The Chief Minister said special economic zone has been designed for economic development, foreign investment and promotion of local industries.

The Sindh Chief Minister further said that conspiracies are being hatched against the progress of Karachi. The purpose of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was not just to build roads; industries are also included in the projects. This will provide employment opportunities to people. The completion of the Malir Expressway will also be completed soon. Those who spread despair among the people of Karachi will never succeed.
