Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23 climaxes at President’s House, Pakistani students’ success celebrated

Islamabad: The Huawei Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Competition 2022-23 reached its pinnacle with a grand event at Aiwan-e-Sadar (President’s House) – a result of collaboration between Huawei and the Government of Pakistan.

The event celebrated the remarkable achievements of Pakistani teams in regional competitions, showcasing their dedication to excellence in information and communication technology.

Pakistani students demonstrated outstanding performance, securing second and third prizes in the Network Track, and a third prize in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Global Final in Shenzhen, China. This Global Final was the first in-person event since 2019, featuring 146 teams from 36 nations competing for supremacy.

Leading up to the grand finale, over 120,000 students from 74 countries participated in the ICT Competition, representing more than 2000 universities globally.

The closing ceremony was graced by the President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, who emphasized the significance of these achievements. Pakistani students Muhammad Faeez Ali, Asad Anwer, and Maryam Fareed earned global recognition for securing the second prize certificate in the Network Track.

Dr. Arif Alvi acknowledged the strong Pakistan-China friendship and Huawei’s role in nurturing talent and growth. He commended Pakistani students for their consistent excellence and highlighted the vital relationship between industry and academia for future progress.

Shunli Wang, Vice President of Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, praised Pakistan’s accomplishments and the government’s commitment to fostering ICT talent and innovation. He thanked key figures for their support in motivating generations.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a crucial part of Huawei’s dedication to nurturing ICT talent. Alongside the Huawei ICT Academy, Seeds for the Future program, and university labs, this initiative equips young minds with advanced skills for digital transformation.

Dr. Umar Saif, Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, echoed the sentiments of pride, emphasizing Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI)’s importance in Pakistan’s future vision.

Asad Anwar, a member of the winning team, expressed gratitude for Huawei’s Talent Ecosystem program, which allowed them to represent Pakistan on the global stage.
