PTDC, PCFAK celebrate Pakistan-China Year of Tourism 2023

Islamabad: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and the Pakistan-China Friendship Association Khyber (PCFAK) celebrated the Pakistan-China Year of Tourism 2023.

At the jointly organized special event, Minister of State for Tourism, Syed Wasi Shah, expressed his optimism about how the Pakistan-China Year of Tourism 2023 would serve as a catalyst for expanding Pakistan’s tourism industry.

He emphasized the enduring bond between Pakistan and China, describing it as stronger than mountains, deeper than seas, and sweeter than honey.

This celebration was seen as a significant step in deepening cultural and economic ties between the two nations, with the goal of boosting tourism and extending a warm welcome to Chinese visitors.

Wasi Shah highlighted China’s global appeal as a destination steeped in ancient traditions and modern marvels, attracting tourists from all corners of the world.

He shared remarkable statistics, indicating that, before the global COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese tourists spent more than 255 billion Dollars on tourism abroad, underscoring their strong interest in travel.

Wasi Shah revealed that extensive information about Pakistan’s tourist destinations in the Chinese language is now available on the Chinese Embassy’s website, thanks to collaborative efforts. Moreover, Chinese tourists can conveniently apply for tourist visas online through Pakistan’s e-portal.

Zheng Heng, China’s Cultural Consul, expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s commitment to celebrating the Year of Tourism 2023, which he believed would bolster bilateral tourism between the two countries. He also praised Minister Wasi Shah and PTDC for their contributions to the tourism sector’s growth.

Zheng Heng emphasized the rich cultural and religious heritage shared by both nations, highlighting the popularity of Gandhara tourism in Pakistan.

Wasi Shah specifically mentioned revered Chinese philosophers such as “Confucius” and “Sun Tzu” during the event, drawing parallels between their wisdom and the blessings found in Pakistan.

He spotlighted prominent historical sites in Pakistan, including Mehrgarh, Mohenjo-daro, Harappa, and Taxila, noting their significance for Chinese tourists, especially those interested in Buddhism.

The event featured the participation of provincial minister Feroz Jamal Shah Kaka Khel, Abbottabad Mayor Sardar Shuja Nabi, representatives from the Chinese Embassy, Pakistan Foreign Office, and various stakeholders and media.

The event concluded with Minister Wasi Shah and the Chinese Cultural Counselor jointly cutting a celebratory cake alongside other distinguished guests.
