Islamabad: Chairman of the Kashmir Council Europe Ali Raza Syed on Thursday stressed the critical global concern surrounding the longstanding issue of Kashmir.

He said the issue transcends mere bilateral relations or geographic boundaries and it was fundamentally a human rights crisis that has persisted for over seven decades.

With a population of 15 million Kashmiris living under the contentious and, illegal occupation of India, the urgency to address this situation is undeniable,” he said while speaking at a gathering here.

Syed saif the call for the implementation of United Nations resolutions on Kashmir reflects a commitment to upholding international law and norms.

These resolutions, adopted in the aftermath of India and Pakistan’s first war over Kashmir in 1947-48, reaffirm the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. This right, rooted in the principles of democracy and human rights, is a cornerstone of international law, he added.

The Kashmiri leader said India’s actions in Kashmir had raised significant concerns regarding the respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Syed said the reports of human rights abuses, restrictions on freedom of movement and expression, and the militarization of the region have drawn widespread condemnation from international organizations and human rights advocates.

The denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination in the face of these challenges represents a stark violation of international standards, he added.

Ali Raza Syed’s call for great powers to play a role in pressuring India to address the Kashmir issue underscores the broader implications of this unresolved conflict.

Regional peace and stability in South Asia, a region marked by geopolitical tensions, are intricately linked to the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

The involvement of influential nations in facilitating dialogue and negotiation between India and Pakistan can pave the way for a peaceful resolution that respects the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and promotes stability in the region.

Ali Raza Syed’s statement underscores the pressing need for a global response to the Kashmir issue. It highlights the human rights violations, the call for the implementation of UN resolutions, and the potential role of great powers in achieving regional peace and stability.
