Japanese Ambassador WADA Mitsuhiro hosts reception for journalists

Islamabad: Japanese Ambassador WADA Mitsuhiro on Thursday evening hosted an exclusive reception for journalists at his residence, where he warmly welcomed attendees and expressed the intention to deepen understanding of Japan and its relations with Pakistan.

During the event, he highlighted key figures present, such as JICA’s Chief Representative Mr. Kinoshita and the newly arrived Chief of the Public Affairs Section, Mr. Takane.

Ambassador WADA commenced his address by acknowledging significant milestones achieved in the 70th anniversary year of diplomatic relations between Japan and Pakistan.

He provided insights into Japan’s development assistance to Pakistan, particularly in response to the historic flood last summer.

He mentioned the generous pledge of approximately 77 million US dollars, with over half already disbursed. This includes a grant aid project focused on rebuilding schools in Sindh Province.

Shifting the focus to high-level dialogue, Ambassador WADA discussed Foreign Minister level talks between the two nations.

He highlighted ongoing frameworks for political dialogue and reiterated Japan’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations.

Business relations between Japan and Pakistan were also a key point of discussion. The ambassador’s visit to Sialkot in September aimed to strengthen ties, with over 80 Japanese companies contributing to Pakistan’s economy, despite challenges in the current economic situation.

Cultural and people-to-people exchanges were underscored as the foundation of the Japan-Pakistan relationship. Ambassador WADA highlighted events like a Karate session and a Japanese film festival, emphasizing the importance of fostering mutual cultural understanding. Notably, he acknowledged individuals like Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad and Dr. Gazala Irfan for their contributions to strengthening cultural relations.

As the evening concluded, Ambassador WADA assured attendees of his commitment to further developing the longstanding friendship between Japan and Pakistan.

He expressed gratitude to the journalists, emphasizing their crucial role in this endeavor.

In his closing remarks, the ambassador humorously acknowledged the anticipation for the Japanese cuisine prepared by his chef, rounding off the evening with gratitude and a commitment to a strengthened future for Japan-Pakistan relations.
