Michael Douglas prepares to receive jaw-dropping honor in Italy

Rome: As per the news of Variety, the 80-year-old American actor and film producer will be given a lifetime achievement award at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival.

A new copy of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the 1975 and five Oscar-winning New Hollywood classic comedy-drama produced by Douglas, will also be shown in the fest’s 8,000-seat open-air ancient Greek amphitheatre.

He, who was 31 years old at the time of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which he produced with Saul Zaentz, will travel to the sea town of Taormina in Sicily, where a new version of the drama will premiere to celebrate its 50th anniversary at the festival’s opening night on June 10, 2025.

In a statement, the fest’s artistic director Tiziana Rocca said, “It is with great excitement and pride that we announce the presence of Michael Douglas as the guest of honor on the opening night of the Taormina Film Festival.”

Singing praises of Douglas, he added, “An icon of world cinema, actor and producer extraordinaire,” who has “marked entire generations with unforgettable performances and an unwavering commitment to the enhancement of cinematic art.”

“But my esteem for him is also of a personal nature. I still remember very well and with emotion the evening I organized in Rome in honor of his father Kirk,” Rocca noted.

It is pertinent to mention that Michael Douglas might teach a class of film students at Taormina along with the award event and the screening of his drama, per the same outlet.
