Frankfurt: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Germany marked the 71st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with a moving and dignified ceremony held in Frankfurt, attended by party workers, literary figures, and new members from various cities across Germany.

President PPP Germany Syed Zahid Abbas Shah, in a statement issued on the occasion, recalled a deeply personal and historic memory from June 21, 1978 — a modest birthday celebration held at Flashman Hotel in Rawalpindi where Benazir Bhutto, then just 25 years old, cut her birthday cake in the company of only five people. Among them were Yasmin Niazi (daughter of the late Dr. Niazi), Altaf Parwana (who is still alive), the late Aziz Shaheed who captured the iconic photograph, Benazir Bhutto herself — and Zahid Abbas Shah, who organized the gathering.

“These are not just moments — they become part of history,” Shah said. “Whatever happens afterward becomes part of a continuing legacy. No need for long introductions — some realities remain fresh and inspiring forever.”

He noted that while this story may have been told before, it is important for young and passionate PPP workers to understand the roots of the party’s legacy and the sacrifices and simplicity that defined its leaders. “This context will continue to elevate your dignity and the honour of the party,” he said.

Shah proudly stated that from 1978 to 2025, PPP workers around the world have kept the spirit of Benazir Bhutto’s legacy alive and vibrant. “As long as we are here, we will continue this tradition with the same passion, Insha’Allah.”

The June 21, 2025 event in Frankfurt, organized by PPP Germany’s central body, featured speeches, poetry, and musical tributes celebrating Benazir Bhutto’s life and mission. Distinguished guests, including scholars, poets, and intellectuals, participated in the programme and some formally joined the party, committing to serve with dedication and reasoned argument.

The event also showcased a visual journey through time, including rare photographs and video clips from the 1978 celebration, as well as footage from the Frankfurt gathering — symbolizing the enduring connection between the party’s past and present.

Shah concluded with a call to unity and service: “Our history is our strength. It is our responsibility to pass this legacy forward with pride and commitment.”
