Zhengzhou: According to the Henan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as of June 20, a total of 88.21 million mu (approximately 58,807 square kilometers) of summer crops had been sown, covering 98% of the planned planting area. Except for some late-planted soybeans, short-season grains, and rotational vegetables, Henan has basically completed its summer sowing.

This year, due to weather conditions, the wheat harvest in Henan began 3 to 5 days earlier than usual, providing a head start for the early planting of autumn crops. Large-scale summer sowing across the province started on May 28 and is now nearly complete, in line with the typical pace of previous years. With the addition of spring sowing, Henan’s total autumn grain planting area remains steady at over 76 million mu, ensuringa solid foundation for both stable grain production and increased yields throughout the year.

Mechanization and smart technologies played a keyrole in Henan’s summer planting this year. The province deployed atotal of 850,000 planting machines, including 87,000 precision seeders, 19,000 of which were newly added. Additionally, 40,300 tractors were outfitted with Beidou-assisted driving systems, with more than 5,000 newly installed. The widespread use of precision seeding, optimized corn planting density, and integrated water and fertilizer systems, including drip and micro-spray irrigation, has greatly enhanced both the quality and efficiency of sowing.
