Pakistan reaffirms commitment to regional peace and security at SCO meeting in China

Islamabad: Pakistan’s National Security Adviser and Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, is currently undertaking an official visit to China, where he represented Pakistan at the high-level meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
During the session, Lt Gen Malik delivered a strong reaffirmation of Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to global peace, stability, and security amidst a rapidly evolving international environment. He underscored Pakistan’s principled stance on fostering multilateral cooperation and addressing emerging security challenges through dialogue and collaboration.
Highlighting Islamabad’s constructive role in the region, the National Security Adviser emphasized Pakistan’s consistent efforts to support peace initiatives and conflict resolution across South and Central Asia. He noted that Pakistan remains fully engaged in efforts to promote regional connectivity, stability, and mutual prosperity among SCO member states.
On the sidelines of the conference, Lt Gen Malik also held important bilateral meetings with senior Chinese officials and members of the Chinese leadership. These discussions focused on deepening Pakistan-China strategic and security cooperation, with both sides expressing firm resolve to strengthen coordination on counterterrorism, intelligence-sharing, and regional peace initiatives under the framework of the SCO and the China-Pakistan bilateral relationship.
Lt Gen Malik reiterated Pakistan’s vision of peaceful coexistence and the country’s commitment to fostering good neighbourly relations. He stressed that dialogue, mutual respect, and non-interference remain central tenets of Pakistan’s foreign and security policy, particularly in a region marked by geopolitical complexity.
The visit comes at a crucial time when SCO members are seeking to enhance joint responses to transnational threats and bolster regional mechanisms for collective security. Pakistan, as a full member of the SCO, continues to play an active role in shaping the organization’s strategic agenda.
