UK and Pakistan strengthen trade ties ahead of upcoming bilateral dialogue

Islamabad: In a significant step toward bolstering economic relations, Mohammad Yasin, the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Pakistan, met with key Pakistani officials to advance bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

The high-level engagement focused on unlocking untapped trade potential, diversifying economic collaboration, and laying the groundwork for the upcoming UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue.

During the meeting with Rana Ihsaan Afzal, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce, and Additional Secretary Commerce, Nasir Hamid, both sides underscored the importance of expanding trade in high-growth sectors such as technology, agriculture, textiles, and renewable energy. These sectors were identified as critical areas for stimulating economic growth and innovation in both countries.

A central point of discussion was the forthcoming UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue, which both parties view as a pivotal platform for deepening economic partnerships, addressing trade barriers, and fostering new opportunities.

The dialogue also emphasized the need to diversify the existing trade basket. Strategies were discussed to expand the exchange of goods and services to include pharmaceuticals, information technology services, and green technologies, further broadening the commercial landscape between the two nations.

Expressing mutual optimism, both the UK and Pakistani representatives reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral trade volumes and encouraging innovation-driven commerce. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to promote stronger commercial ties and build a resilient and forward-looking economic partnership.
