Zhengzhou: On July 28, at the construction site of Phase I of the Central Operating Zone of Zhoukou Port, a fully assembled automated quayside container crane standing approximately 32 meters tall was successfully installed. Working in tandem with the fully automated rail-mounted gantry cranes already in place in the container yard, the new equipment lays a solid foundation for Zhoukou Port’s transformation toward an intelligent, eco-friendly, and modern operational model.
“This is the first piece of intelligent stevedoring equipment deployed at a port terminal in Henan, and currently the most advanced one of its kind in the province,” said Zhou Xuan, Manager of the Equipment Information Department of Zhoukou Port Co., which operates under the Port & Shipping Company of Henan Transport Investment Group. “Its overall configuration ranks among the best in China and meets world-class standards.” Once put into operation, the equipment will be integrated with other smart systems, such as autonomous container trucks, to enable full-process automation of container loading and unloading, horizontal transportation, and yard operations.
The Central Operating Zone of Zhoukou Port serves as the flagship and landmark project of Henan’s inland waterway development initiative, known as the “11246 Project”. A total of 22 berths are planned, with an annual handling capacity of 1.76 million TEUs, to be developed in two phases. Phase I includes the construction of 13 berths for 2,000-ton-class vessels and marks Henan’s first high-standard port project positioned as a dedicated million-TEU-class container terminal. It is scheduled for completion and commissioning by the end of this year.
