Afghanistan earthquake: Death toll hits 1,400 as rescue efforts go on

Death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on Sunday night has climbed to 1,411, according to the government spokesman.

A desperate search for survivors is on after the magnitude 6.0 earthquake left more than 3,000 wounded, with most victims in Kunar province.

Rescue and aid workers are struggling to reach remote mountainous areas cut off from road and mobile networks.
