Islamabad: Chinese Embassy Charge d’Affaires Shi Yuanqiang has emphasized the critical role of media in strengthening Pakistan-China relations and shaping public perceptions about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing journalists as vital communicators of bilateral cooperation.

Addressing participants of a “Capacity Building Workshop for Journalists and Social Media Influencers on CPEC Reporting and Media Ethics,” organized by the Center for Democracy and Climate Studies (CDCS) in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy, Shi Yuanqiang said China and Pakistan are “all-weather strategic partners and iron-clad friends.”

Wang Shengjie, Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, on this occasion said the media serves as a bridge to deepen cultural exchanges and promote a more accurate understanding of China among Pakistanis.

He urged journalists and digital influencers to act professionally and responsibly, countering misinformation and highlighting positive narratives of Pakistan-China cooperation.

“It is hoped that journalists will leverage their platforms to become interpreters of China-related developments and leaders of public opinion friendly toward China,” he remarked.

Executive Director of CDCS, Dr. Furqan Rao, said initiatives like the workshop enhance journalistic skills while fostering people-to-people bonds. He stressed that fact-based reporting is essential for accurately communicating CPEC projects and their socio-economic impact.

Chief Guest Mustafa Hyder Sayed, Executive Director of the Pakistan-China Institute, highlighted the importance of people-to-people exchanges, while Guest of Honor Shakeel Qarar, former President of the National Press Club, urged young journalists to uphold professionalism.

Senior journalists, diplomats, and academics, including former ambassador to China Moin ul Haque and defense analyst Amir Rana, conducted sessions on fact-checking, media safety, and tackling disinformation.
