Lahore: In a significant step to ensure the security and well-being of Chinese nationals in Pakistan, Punjab’s Special Protection Unit (SPU) launched a round-the-clock helpline to provide guidance and assistance on security-related matters.

The initiative, announced by SPU Chief Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ghazi Salahuddin, specifically caters to Chinese workers engaged in CPEC and non-CPEC projects, as well as private enterprises. The helpline, accessible at 0327-8888111, will function through WhatsApp and WeChat, enabling Chinese nationals to quickly report concerns, receive assistance, and get accurate information in their own language.

Special help desks have also been set up at major airports in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, and Sialkot to facilitate smooth arrival procedures for Chinese visitors. According to officials, messages received via the helpline are handled by trained translators and interpreters, ensuring quick and effective communication.

The SPU staff will operate in three shifts, guaranteeing 24/7 service. Moreover, police officials assigned to the unit are undergoing intensive training in Mandarin Chinese to improve direct communication with visitors. Currently, 25 officers are enrolled in language courses.

DIG Salahuddin emphasized that the new initiative will not only enhance security but also strengthen confidence and trust between Pakistan and China, particularly at a time when both nations are pushing forward with China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)’s second phase. “This service reflects our commitment to protect and support our Chinese friends who are contributing to Pakistan’s development,” he noted.

The Punjab Home Department and Ministry of Interior are actively coordinating with SPU to expand the program across other districts. Citizens will also be able to send complaints, feedback, and suggestions to improve the system.

The measure comes amid increasing Chinese investment in Pakistan’s industrial zones, agriculture sector, and infrastructure projects under CPEC phase-II. By prioritizing the security of Chinese nationals, Pakistan aims to send a strong signal of reliability and partnership to Beijing.
