Greece-Bulgaria conclude agreement on the use of Ardas River waters

Sofia: The agreement on the use of the waters of the Arda River was concluded following negotiations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Bulgaria, in coordination with the co-responsible Ministries of Environment and Energy and Rural Development and Food.

Specifically, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, George Gerapetritis and Georg Georgiev signed on Friday, May 2, a Joint Declaration which, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “ensures the provision on the part of Bulgaria of a sufficient quantity of water for a period of 5 years, allowing the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the irrigation system and agricultural production in the border region of Evros, after the expiry of the relevant sixty-year intergovernmental Agreement between Greece and Bulgaria.”
