Deadly fight erupts between rival ultras in northern Italy

Rome: Italy is in mourning after a 26-year-old lost his life in the early hours of Sunday following a violent altercation between rival ultra groups.

The incident took place shortly after 01.00 CEST on a street close to Atalanta’s home ground in Bergamo.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the victim was reportedly stabbed in the back by a 19-year-old who turned himself in to police later that morning.

The alleged attacker claimed he acted in defence of his brother during the brawl, which involved around ten people—despite the two clubs not even facing each other this week.
