US Envoy Reaffirms Enduring Strength of US-Pakistan Ties, Celebrates Expanding Partnership

Islamabad: US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker reaffirmed the longstanding strength and dynamic evolution of US-Pakistan relations during a celebratory reception hosted by the US Embassy in Islamabad to commemorate the 249th anniversary of American independence.
Delivering the keynote address, the Acting US Ambassador reflected on the deep-rooted and multifaceted partnership between the United States and Pakistan, characterizing it as one grounded in shared democratic ideals and mutual respect.
“As we mark the Fourth of July, we are not only celebrating American independence,” she said, “we are also honouring the universal values that unite us—liberty, equality, self-governance, and the pursuit of happiness. These ideals transcend borders and form the bedrock of our partnership with Pakistan.”
Recalling her second diplomatic posting in Islamabad, Baker noted with appreciation how the US-Pakistan relationship has matured over the years. While the warmth and cultural richness of Pakistan remain constant, she said, the bilateral ties have grown deeper and more purposeful. “Our engagement today is defined not only by friendship but by partnership—one that delivers results for both our peoples.”
Baker highlighted the enduring cooperation between the two countries in critical sectors such as education, health, development, and humanitarian response—particularly through the US Agency for International Development (USAID). She described USAID’s work in Pakistan as a foundational element of US support since the early years of Pakistan’s independence. “These programs have transformed lives, built capacity, and left a legacy of resilience and empowerment.”
On the security front, the Chargé d’Affaires acknowledged the close collaboration between American and Pakistani defense forces. She commended Pakistan’s recent role in the arrest and extradition of a high-profile ISIS-K operative connected to the deadly 2021 Kabul airport attack, hailing it as a “noteworthy milestone” in the shared fight against terrorism. “Our armed forces have trained side-by-side, confronted common threats, and continue to safeguard regional peace and security through mutual trust and coordination,” she added, extending gratitude to both countries’ military leadership.
Turning to the economic domain, Baker underlined a growing focus on investment and innovation. She mentioned the Pakistan Critical Minerals Investment Forum and expanding cooperation in digital technologies and fintech sectors, highlighting them as promising avenues for future growth. “Whether it’s cryptocurrency, data infrastructure, or digital entrepreneurship, we are investing in a future that benefits both nations,” she remarked.
Addressing diplomatic strides, Baker pointed to recent trilateral engagements involving the United States, Pakistan, and other regional players that contributed to a temporary ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India. She praised the constructive role played by Pakistani leadership in fostering regional stability, commending Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their commitment to dialogue and peace. “Even amid longstanding tensions, dialogue and cooperation can help chart a path to stability,” she stated.
Looking ahead, Baker expressed optimism about the future trajectory of the bilateral relationship, pledging continued American support through technological advancement, educational exchange, and entrepreneurial engagement. “We are committed to bringing the best of America to Pakistan. Together, we can build a future marked by shared success, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.”
The Independence Day celebration featured vibrant elements of American culture, including traditional cuisine, musical performances, and a special concert by the United States Air Force Band, which captivated the diverse audience. Baker described the event as emblematic of the American spirit—defined by exploration, innovation, and unyielding optimism.
Earlier in the evening, Baker welcomed an array of distinguished guests including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, senior officials, members of the diplomatic community, and prominent representatives from Pakistan’s political, business, cultural, and media sectors.
