Rome: Italian transport group FNM has taken a major step in advancing hydrogen mobility with the inauguration of the first of five hydrogen refueling stations planned. Located at Carugate Est, along Milan’s eastern ring road, the station forms part of the company’s broader strategy to create a national hydrogen network supporting low-emission road and rail transport.

The new facility, developed in partnership with Milano Serravalle – Milano Tangenziali S.p.A., is the first to be deployed across strategic logistics corridors in northern Italy. Designed to serve both passenger vehicles and heavy-duty transport, the station reflects FNM’s commitment to building a multi-modal, integrated infrastructure that supports the transition to cleaner energy in line with European climate goals.

“Alongside the H2iseO project, which will introduce Italy’s first hydrogen-powered trains by 2026, this new road network represents a fundamental step forward in sustainable mobility,” said Andrea Gibelli, President of FNM.

FNM’s hydrogen strategy is supported by the H2iseO Hydrogen Valley initiative in Val Camonica, where the company is developing infrastructure for both road and rail applications. The project has positioned FNM at the forefront of hydrogen innovation in Italy, with the first commercial hydrogen train services scheduled to begin by mid-2026.

Construction of FNM’s full network, which includes a second Carugate station, one in Rho, and two in Tortona; is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, with commercial operations starting in 2026.
