Islamabad: Central Information Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Shazia Marri, has said that no political party can control or change the weather, but collective efforts are essential to address the serious impacts of climate change.

Commenting on the recent heavy rains in Karachi and Sindh, she stressed that while natural disasters cannot be prevented, they can be managed through timely preparation and proper planning.

“People have elected the Pakistan People’s Party to serve Karachi and the entire Sindh province. PPP has always stood with the people in difficult times, and will continue to do so,” Marri stated.

She noted that President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari remained in constant contact with the administration during the rain emergency, while Sindh Chief Minister personally monitored drainage operations in Karachi.

Marri highlighted that sewerage cleaning and repair work had started months before the monsoon, which helped avert a worse crisis. “Mayor Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, was seen working tirelessly day and night during the rains. Without these preparations, the situation could have been far more disastrous,” she said.

Acknowledging the hardships faced by citizens, she assured that the provincial government is providing every possible assistance. “Some political parties are only engaging in criticism, despite being rejected by the people. Unfortunately, even in this difficult time, opponents restricted themselves to mere statements,” she remarked.

She further pointed out that all available resources and manpower were mobilized for public safety and relief operations. “Even developed cities across the world go underwater in such heavy rains. Yet in Karachi, water was drained almost immediately after the rain stopped,” she added.

Marri also urged the media to cover not just the challenges, but also the areas that have already been cleared and dewatered, so that citizens can see the progress being made on the ground.

Reaffirming her party’s commitment, she concluded: “The Pakistan Peoples Party will continue serving the people of Sindh and Karachi with full dedication.”
