Durrani, MQM discuss new provinces, flood emergency
Lahore: Senior politician and former federal minister Mohammad Ali Durrani urged the government to declare a national emergency over the flood crisis during a meeting with an MQM delegation.
The delegation, led by MQM leader and convener Pothohar Province movement Zahid Malik, met Durrani at his residence to discuss political affairs and the creation of new provinces.
Durrani said provinces formed on administrative grounds would strengthen governance and help resolve public issues.
He added that the absence of a local government system had worsened the impact of floods, while the concentration of provincial resources in specific cities was aggravating public grievances.
He said that provincial resources should be distributed equally under the constitutional formula rather than at the discretion of chief ministers.
The delegation praised Durrani for his struggle for the creation of new provinces on administrative grounds and the restoration of Bahawalpur Province.
Mr. Durrani congratulated Zahid Malik on launching the movement for creation of Pothohar Province.
MQM Punjab Secretary General Karamat Ali Sheikh and Additional Secretary General Umar Ali Agha were present at the meeting
