Islamabad: The Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) has approved a project proposal regarding the new Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Taking to Twitter, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said that he chaired a P3A board meeting which approved the project proposal and transaction structure of the CPEC’s modern KCR project.

“It will be a 43km (kilometers) track, with 30 stations and ridership expected to exceed 4 lacs (400, 000) daily. This will transform the Karachi transport situation,” he maintained.

Earlier, the minister had announced that the work on the modern KCR project would start in January. “The construction work on the new KCR project would start from January 2022,” he had tweeted, adding that significant progress was made on all five projects of Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP) including Green Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Project, K-IV Water project, cleaning of three nullahs (sewerage lines), Karachi Circular Railways and Railway Freight Corridor.
