Moldova increases cherry supplies to the EU by 12.5 times in 2023

Brussels: The supply of Moldovan cherries to the EU in 2023 increased 12.5 times compared to the previous year. This data was shared by the European Union Delegation to Moldova on its Facebook page.

While 208 tonnes of Moldovan cherries were exported to the EU market in 2022, in 2023 the export figure reached 2,600 tonnes, worth a total of US$ 7.4 million. A further 163 tonnes were exported to the UK.

This year, Moldovan cherries arrived for the first time in several EU countries, such as Spain, Italy, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Referring to specialists, the EU Delegation to Moldova also says that the success in expanding the export geography is due to investments in modern varieties, post-harvest infrastructure, and the implementation of international standards.

In total, Moldova exported more than 16,000 tonnes of cherries this year, worth more than US$ 22 million.
