Ambassador Pontecorvo, who hosted the film festival with his wife Lidia Pontecorvo highlighted the importance of mountains in lives and the role everyone plays for the conservation of natural resources, including mountains and glaciers.

He briefed about the environmental interventions made by the Italian government in Pakistan. He expressed his happiness on the long relationship between Italy and Pakistan spanning over 100 years since 1909 when the first Italian scientific expedition reached the base camp of K2 led by the Duke of Abruzzi.

He said Pakistan was known for many things, one of them is its mighty tall mountains and people are celebrating that on International Mountain Day.

Pakistanis are also using the occasion to highlight the importance of maintaining a steady stream of tourists to strengthen the economy as well as preserving Nature, he said.

Pakistan’s northern areas, he said, were full of beautiful views of mountains. Pakistan’s economy can grow if they just focus on tourism by providing facilities in these areas.
