Pakistani, Chinese institutes introduce smart irrigation technology in Pakistan

Sargodha: Intelligent Irrigation Technology Promotion Center was inaugurated in Sialmor area here as part of a joint project of Pakistani and Chinese institutions.

At the inauguration, Director General (DG) Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) Dr Hifza Rasheed lauded PCRWR and China’s Beifang Investigation Design and Research Co. Ltd (BIDR) for introducing smart irrigation technology in Pakistan.

On the occasion, Liu Hairui, Vice President of BIDR, highlighted China’s initiatives in water management, foreseeing a fruitful collaboration to address crop productivity and water management issues at the farm level.

Dr Rasheed, in her speech, discussed the National Water Policy of 2018 and its priorities in water resources management.

She emphasized the pivotal role of technological innovation in addressing water resources management challenges during the event.

She applauded PCRWR and China’s BIDR for introducing smart irrigation technology in Pakistan, expressing hope that it would spur the adoption of water-efficient technologies in irrigation.

At the start, Bareerah Fatima provided insights into PCRWR’s research infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of technological transfer.

Earlier, the Intelligent Irrigation Technology Promotion Centre was inaugurated by Dr Hifza Rasheed and Liu Hairui.
